Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate is designed to equip lay leaders in the Bible, theology, and ministry.

Built around flexibility, these certificates can be ideal for people who do not need a full theology degree but would still like to learn from world-class seminary faculty about the topics that would be most beneficial for their Christian growth and ministry. The GC could be helpful for ruling elders, deacons, ministry staff, and lay leaders to provide an introduction to the Bible, theology, and ministry. For most certificates, a majority of classes taken are transferrable into our Master’s degree programs for students who decide to do further study.

See course sequences for each program below. NOTE: The GC in Biblical and Theological Studies has no set course sequence but allows for a variety of courses in areas of interest to the student.

Who this is for

Elder Training

Equip your church leaders under Bible and ministry experts. Elders are called to an office of “prayer and ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4). Though most elders begin their calling with very little training. With a graduate certificate, elders can fulfill their calling by studying the Bible and ministry at their own pace under seasoned church leaders.

Lay Leadership

Church members who are hungry to go deeper into the Bible and theology don’t have to wait to see what Bible studies will be offered through their church every year. Choose from a variety of Bible and theology courses each semester to learn the Bible from faculty who wrote the commentaries their pastors use.

Bible Study

Learn the Bible from the professors who wrote your study Bible.

Certificate Formats

Each certificate varies in length depending on area of study. Most certificates can be completed fully online or in-residence, though a few can only be completed in a hybrid format since they require semester-long courses in residence. See each certificate for details.

Residential

Learn in residence in St. Louis under a faculty of pastor-scholars and alongside a community of learners. On-campus housing is available for single students, couples, and families.

Online

Many graduate certificates can be completed fully online, allowing you to study at your own pace and within your local context while still giving you access to deep biblical scholarship.

Hybrid

Some graduate certificates are a mixture of in-person and online courses. Week-long intensive courses are available in addition to semester-long residential courses.
