Dr. Flayhart served as the Founding and Lead Pastor at Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church, a daughter church of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, for almost 35 years before passing on the baton earlier in 2024. He continues to serve at Oak Mountain in his new role as Founding Pastor at Large. In his long and fruitful ministry he has served with Campus Crusade for Christ (now Cru), assisted with church planting in Chicago, served on the Boards of Covenant Seminary and GospelTree Ministries, and written (with Holly Mackle) the book The Gospel Waltz: Experiencing the Transformational Power of Grace. His Covenant Seminary DMin dissertation focused on the theme of Gospel-Centered Mentoring.
