Covenant Seminary Receives $10 Million for new Scholarships

Following its recent $43 million Hope for the Future capital campaign, two donors have stepped forward to provide Covenant Seminary with two new legacy endowments totaling $10 million for training future ministry leaders. The first gift of $5 million was provided by Steve and Debby Robins to establish the Deborah M. Robins Legacy Scholarship Endowment. This largest-ever-received cash gift provides an endowment that will fund 25 new scholarships annually for female students seeking seminary-level training for ministry leadership and counseling.

Seminary President Rev. Dr. Thomas C. Gibbs remarked, “Equipping men and women for vital roles in discipleship, education, counseling, and next generation ministries is imperative for the health of our churches. We are deeply thankful to the Robins and pray these new scholarships will enable more women to attend Covenant Seminary, that the church may thrive because of their training.”

Debby Robins commented, “We need men and women with the proper theological training to bring forward a sustaining Christian narrative that gives meaning to our origin and life’s purpose. Covenant Seminary is training men and women with the knowledge and skills to come alongside people and meet these needs with a biblical response in a deeply relational way. This is why we give to Covenant Seminary.”

The Robins’s gift has inspired a second donor to step forward and match their commitment with a separate $5 million gift. This endowment will provide 25 new scholarships annually for male students preparing for pastoral ministry. The donor commented, “Covenant Seminary has an indisputable legacy of training pastors to preach the word and shepherd the church. It is my deep joy to provide a gift that will support future generations in their training.”

“Training pastors, counselors, and ministry leaders has always been at the foundation of Covenant Seminary,” said President Gibbs. “Faithfully equipped pastors empower every aspect of the church. With God’s blessing, working through these new awards, we will supply local churches, missions agencies, campus ministries, youth ministries, and Christian classrooms with the qualified leadership they deserve for generations. We are thankful that these new scholarships will enable more gospel workers to enter ministry unhindered by student debt and joyfully step into the callings the Lord provides.”

Covenant Seminary has equipped pastors, counselors, and ministry leaders since 1956 and is the denominational seminary of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Located in St. Louis, Missouri, Covenant Seminary has equipped thousands of graduates for the PCA and beyond. Over 5,000 Covenant Seminary alumni minister in 50 states and over 100 countries.
