Announcing the Jerram Barrs Chair of Pastoral Theology

Covenant Seminary is pleased to announce the establishment of a new endowed faculty chair known as The Jerram Barrs Chair of Pastoral Theology.

Named for Jerram Barrs, Professor of Christian Studies and Contemporary Culture and Senior Scholar-in-Residence for the Francis Schaeffer Institute (FSI) at Covenant Seminary, the chair is one of three newly established endowed faculty chairs through the Seminary's recently completed Hope for the Future capital campaign. The five-year campaign, the largest in the Seminary's history, exceeded its $40 million goal to help expand two existing faculty chairs and complete two others, double the Seminary's endowment, expand the resources available for supporting faculty and students, and strengthen the institution's impact on the world in a variety of ways.

Known for his gentle manner, passion for Christ, faithfulness to Scripture, and deep concern for reaching the lost and hurting with the hope of the gospel, Prof. Jerram Barrs has, for more than 30 years, had a profound impact on the Seminary’s mission and ministry. His emphasis on training pastors to engage our culture winsomely with compassion and truth has left a mark on countless Covenant graduates now ministering in churches and other settings across the country and around the world. Prof. Barrs's life of especially fruitful ministry has included time as a student and worker with Francis and Edith Schaeffer at L’Abri in Switzerland; many years pastoring at International Presbyterian Church in Hampshire, England, while also working as the Director of the English branch of L’Abri; and, of course, his founding of and decades of dedication to the Francis Schaeffer Institute at Covenant Seminary.
